Mid Rim Planets

Aarronn
Colonies: One

Locations: Ifis Stables

Value:  Two

Purpose:  Common Wealth Merchant Colony

  • Ifis Stables: Super stables built to bread Horses and other species of pack animals. The population of Ifis Stables is just under 1 million, reaching over a landmass of 270 cubic/miles. The stables themselves can just barely be seen from orbit. Ifis Stables is still in negotiations with the UEF for membership.

Abadeim

Colonies: One

Locations: Rumford Stables, Mintekarii Pyramid and Alnegrii burial grounds

Value:  Four

Purpose: Common Wealth Merchant

·        Abadeim: Abadeim’s desert environment intimidates most colonists interested in a new home but most that live there swear by the surprisingly cool weather.  Abadeim’s large expanse of flat terrain is more similar to tundras than sandy dunes.  The light cool wind washes over the hundreds of miles of totally flat expanse, offering plenty of room of colonization. Abadeim has virtually no mineral deposits and few species of plants have taken hold. The jewel on Abadeim is high up in the North Pole. Merely 500 kilometers from the ice flows lay a group of featureless pyramids.  The six pyramids are all within line of sight with each other.

·        Mintekarii: Pyramid.

·        Alnegrii: Pyramid and sacred burial grounds.

·        Rumford Stables: Has become one of the largest livestock storehouses ever constructed.  The 3 Million inhabitants, all of whom live on the equator are all herders.

Bastion
Colonies: Two

Locations: Noide, Tufu and Atinak

Value:  Three

Purpose:  Common Wealth Merchant Colony

  • Noide: is a small civilian outpost with very little character. Noides’ population consists mostly of farmers and miners, who work for their own survival.
  • Tufu: named by the son of the planets founder, Samual Bastion was the name for the family dog. Tufu is a major religious centre, seeing an annual congregation of nearly 2 million a year. Visitors sleep in tents or at bed and breakfasts. There are three temples – Alagrea, Ammon and Taralis, found at the city’s core. These are where most of the missionaries and religious zealots come to learn their craft. Tufu is home to the pyramid Atinak.
  • Atinak: Pyramid.

Belos

Colonies: One

Locations: Palace Stacy

Value:  Seven

Purpose: UEF Federation Mining Colony

  • Belos: the climate is normally harsh, cold, with high winds, and unpredictable weather. The communities of Palace Stacy mine for Iridium and Helium 3 in the vast network of underground caverns. The atmosphere on Belos is too thin to breathe without assistance, but there is enough oxygen for simple re-breathers to operate. The population has grown to nearly 1 million people and have been built great underground for protection from planet’s climate conditions.

Bernard’s Star

Colonies: One

Locations: NB-121 “SETTI”

Value:  Five

Purpose:  Common Wealth Military Colony

  • NB-121 “SETTI”: is a Service Base, with a small orbiting station set up to service ships patrolling the Mid Rim region. It is a full service port, with the repair abilities of a Colony for anything relating to Spacecraft. Other than that, there is only a small community of 15,000 that tends to the needs of crews passing through the system.
  • Grandhi: is a moon in orbit around a dry and completely barren planet called Sahara, which is a toxic gas giant. Grandhi itself has no atmosphere, but supplies of water and oxygen are available through mining and mineral processing.  Water, food, and air are all extremely precious on Grandhi, and little is wasted in this domed community.

Bossilo
Colonies: Four

Locations: Pandora Biosphere, Station 231-xp “Polar Star”, Medusa, and New Eden

Value:  Six

Purpose:  Common Wealth Merchant Colony

·        Bossilo: is at the edge of CWN Patrolled space, and as such operates with little regard for law or accepted behavior. The world has an unpleasant but breathable atmosphere, and gravity near 1.0.  Most of the surface is covered with water, and the small land areas are overcrowded with a population of 4 million. Work is in progress to artificially increase the land area by building out into the oceans. The biosphere of Pandora is a diverse one, and there are still countless life forms that have never been studied. If this planet were closer to the rest of civilization, it would be covered with research teams from all of the major Corporations.  As it is, only unusual people come this far out; the ones who are obsessed with their work, others who are avoiding legal and personal problems, and people who are very adventurous, curious, or unstable. Strange drugs are also synthesized from the native life forms by researchers. Some who are true geniuses and others who are simply renegades or madmen. The most popular and useful drugs are exported or smuggled back to the rest of the CWN, but the local inhabitants have access to countless other substances. All manner of claims are made about these drugs; some are powerful stimulants or depressants, others have reputed medical value, still others might be painkillers or hallucinogens. Many of the drugs are addictive; most are dangerous; all are unregulated, and therefore unpredictable. The alleys of Pandora are filled with people who have had their health or their minds broken by these experimental drugs. Now that Pandora has a more respectable name with the arrival of Aerodyne, supplies have begun to flow more readily between those Colonies nearest to Bossilo. To move their product farther and to better facilitate starship, Aerodyne had funded the construction of a new station. Pandora itself has received funding directly from the CWN to expand their construction plans for expanding out into the oceans of Pandora, and a new Atmosphere Processor has recently started up.  Unknown to the CWN, the chief scientists in charge, is extracting, distilling, and manufacturing drugs, then engineered them to produce a new bio-drug that potentially enhances human performance.

·        Station 231-xp: Polar Star is the new Space Station being jointly built with Aerodyne to ease and control space traffic into Bossilo’s system. The station is currently past its second year of construction and still has much to complete.

·        Medusa Biosphere: Constructed on one of the few landmasses, contains another large portion of the population.

·        New Eden Biosphere: The last of the three Biospheres on Bossilo.

Camus

Colonies: One

Locations: Dome Cities

Value:  Zero

Purpose: Outcast

·        Camus: is a large asteroid with no atmosphere. Temperatures are very low, and the radiation level is dangerously high for unprotected people. The Colony is a small one, composed of three domed and shielded communities with a total population of 12,000. The communities are all on a single plateau, and are connected by a monorail system. Dozens of small survey and mining craft operate out of Camus, working in the system's asteroid fields. These ships are specially shielded against radiation, and the crews work among the asteroids for 90 days before returning to Camus for detoxification. The reason for all this dangerous and difficult work is the presence of complex radiation-stable hydrocarbons, which are used for medical research and genetic engineering.

Caseopea
Colonies: Three

Locations: Summit, Relitor, and Temple

Value:  Four

Legality: Three

Purpose:  UEF Federation Corporate World

·        Caseopea: is one of the pre-eminent Corporate Planets set up in the early days of colonization. It still produces some of the finest high-technology equipment in the CWN.  It was developed and built up by Summit Corporation shortly before the formation of the UEF. After losing several decades, Summit gathered its' resources from the controlled world of Relitor. This put them directly on the trade route between the Core Planets and the rest of the CWN, and allowed it to take some measure of revenge in the form of legal harassment and increased tariffs and taxes to opponent Corporations.  To combat these obstacles, the UEF was forced to develop new routes for its' commerce. At present, the world of Caseopea has a full range of industry and space manufacturing facilities, and the cooperative ventures between the UEF and Aerodyne Corporation and is the largest manufacturers of commercial spacecraft in the CWN.  They also produce the ships for the CWN Navy, and use this as leverage in their control of their controlled space. Population: 40 Million.

·        Relitor: consists of several domed communities and a small Service Base. The primary ores mined are Titanium and Aluminium. Population: 400 thousand + 100 thousand synthetics.

·        Temple: is a science outpost constructed on a barren moon with a toxic atmosphere and low gravity of 0.84. There are two-dozen researchers at work on metallurgic studies. They are assisted by nearly 50 Synthetics of the latest design, and new techniques are being developed for the use of Synthetic research. Summit current endorses the research on Temple, and hopes to demonstrate the effectiveness of advanced Synthetics in the sciences and in the operation of facilities on dangerous worlds. One technology being tested allows a direct transfer of memory from a Synthetic to a Human, and of instructions and guidance from the Human back to the Synthetic. This would allow Human reasoning and instinct to be more closely coupled with the sheer power of a Synthetic's brain.

Corona
Colonies: One

Locations: Outpost V1120-xp VII

Value:  Three

Purpose:  Peacekeeper Outpost

·        Outpost V1120-xp: consists of a grouping of Research Stations, Detention Centres, Shipyards and Agricultural Stations and has been undergoing major refits during the last two years. The restructuring process was brought on by the shear increase of Convicted Criminal Detention. The throng of criminals had to be managed in order to regiment life on the station. As the rabble gets transferred to new Penitentiary Worlds, which have recently been constructed, the Station is restored to its post-construction beauty. It is hoped that new Peacekeeper recruits will be trained on the Outpost full-time. The Outpost orbits a Gas Giant at the edge of the system. On the Service Base facility, there is a permanent crew of 2 thousand employees. They attend to Traffic through the system, but there is little contact between the Service Base facility and the Research facility. Peacekeeper Scientists are at work researching new technologies for the Service.

Davros Prime

Colonies: One

Locations: Daxtreas

Value:  Three

Purpose:  Common Wealth Naval Outpost

·        Davros Prime: A highly corrosive atmosphere, filled with radioactive particles spewing from alien volcanoes, covers the planet.  The surface is somewhat breathable, with a large amount of Nitrogen. But the Ozone layer is filled with these particles, which appear to neutralize nuclear weapons, disrupt condensed energy, and cause havoc to virtually all flight systems. As a result, no spacecraft can enter the atmosphere without suffering inoperable damage.

·        Space Station Daxtreas:  A huge Sphere with one large rotating hub around it in Geosychronis Orbit. Daxtreas is a major CWN dry-dock for Naval Spacecraft maintenance and construction. Population: 1725

Drome
Colonies: None

Locations: Drome

Value:  Zero

Purpose: Abandoned Colony.

·        Drome:  A quarantined Common Wealth planet, opposite the edge of the UEF Bloc space.  It was a major colony, thousands of years ago. However, a blight known as “Mindrot” killed the people and effectively destroyed the colony.  The Authority placed a quarantine on the planet, which was lifted 500 years later. Shortly after lifting the quarantine, a new colony was introduced but abandoned the planet after five years, giving no reasons. It was considered too expensive to salvage the colony’s machinery. The planet is now desolate and uninhabited. There have been not recent surveys conducted.

Deravin

Colonies: Three

Locations: Deravin City, Narvin 1, Narvin 4

Value:  Four

Legality: Three

Purpose:  UEF Federation Corporate World

·        Deravin: the environment on the planet’s surface is ideal, with a breathable atmosphere and drinkable water. The climate is generally hot and dry, and there are few large bodies of water for drinking and agriculture. The settlements have been centralized closer to the poles, where they transport water from the Polar Regions, where there is no shortages for the population. Industries are built at the edges of the residential areas and are hardened against possible warfare. Civil defence has been a major concern in the cities where bomb shelters and long-term food stores are commonplace.

·        Narvin 1: is the Service Base in orbit around the planet. It is large, efficient, and well stocked with spare parts to support industries on the planet’s surface. The Narvin Series Space Stations are a series of Research Facilities, Production Facilities and Space Ports. However, not all of inhabitable. Narvin 2 and 3 are Telecommunications and Surveillance Satellites.

·        Narvin 4: A small colony delegated with the duty of handling most of the UEF’s nuclear waste is stationed. The Alphatech Narvin 4 orbits the planet, where it rockets barrels of nuclear waste into the massive yellow star.  Most of the personnel on the station have families’ planet side. Alphatech makes a tidy profit by handling most other corporation’s waste.

Finnegan's Folly

Colonies: One

Locations: Finnegan’s Folly

Value:  Zero

Purpose: Outcast

  • Finnegan's Folly:  This planet has only a reclusive number of people because no one else will live on it.  It was adapted as a Military testing ground several centuries ago but the project was scrapped after it was found that the planet's gravitation fields and tectonic plates were abnormal and caused continuous shifting that made permanent colonization difficult. The people living there now move in continuous caravans. The planetary survey, from probes, always reports different results so the exact identification of this planet is impossible. This planet looks completely different every 30 years. Some say this planet has secrets more incredible than can ever be seen in deep space, but since it has no comparable mineral deposits, no one has ever really checked.  No ships have ever been reported crashing on Finnegan's Folly in over 165 years.  No attempt at contact has been established.  The planet's dominant characteristic is that it emits sound waves in a range of solar frequencies. As a result, the entire surface is in a state of agitation in sympathy with the various vibrations. Some of the frequencies are within audible range, producing a continuous and unsettling discord. The effect together with some of the threshold wavelengths makes it impossible to tolerate exposure for any significant length of time.  Many attempts have been made, centuries ago, to establish bases on the planet but the constantly moving surface has made this impossible. Geological tests and drillings have failed to disclose any stable stratum that might provide an anchorage for constructions of any permanence. A further difficulty is that soundproofed surface installations would only be habitable for brief periods as the unrelenting resonance has the effect of seriously disturbing mental equilibrium. Absolutely no clue exists to the reason for this phenomenon, nor has there been an explanation for the fact that the planet has nomadic pockets of gravitational variation. One hypothesis was that, somewhere near the core there exist a large number of very high-density bodies in a state of constant movement. No attempt has been made to initiate contact with the wayfarers, but several moving objects detected in the Sea of Dust (the one big desert) seem to counter that they have died. It is unclear how they survive.  It is estimated that Finnegan's Folly was discovered early in the Colonization of this new region.  Early attempts at a colony proved fruitless and the planet (initially named Rodo) was converted to a Military testing ground. The name was then changed to the familiar term.  Folly's life as a military establishment lasted barely ten years and by the 2nd century, was totally deserted and left for obscurity.  Apparently, a cult that endorsed isolation, left to colonize a world for their own.  The only world they could be assured of privacy was Folly. The ship landed and was never heard from again.  Repeated scanners paths have found nothing but one ship apparently picked up moving objects passing over the Dune Seas. Since the initial landing, six ships have crash or soft-landed on Folly and have never returned.

Fusillade
Colonies: One

Locations: Firewalk

Value:  Seven

Purpose: UEF Federation Mining Colony

  • Fusillade: The planet in flames.  The Firewalk colony is surrounded by them all the time and constantly fights off the roaring fires in order to mine the massive deposits there. People who move to Fusillade usually have nowhere else to go and are desperately in debt. The hazard pay here is amazing. Firewalk mines precious minerals such as copper, silver, gold, iron and other minerals and gems, which are in solution within the magma. Population: 500 Thousand.

Grove
Colonies: One

Locations: Eden

Value:  Ten

Purpose: Special—Prohibited Area— Laboratory and Nature Preserve.

  • Eden:  This was the last naturally inhabitable planet colonized in this millennium. Although its existence has been known for decades, it has been left alone while scientific teams examined the planet.  It was declared off limits because of a pact of non-interference. The planet had been possibly sighted as a source of intelligent life. This has been confirmed to be untrue. The oxygen is rich and human life can be sustained. Teams have discovered extremely rich soil and preferable weather for planet life. Two teams, 5 000 miles apart, are testing the planet for wide use. When cleared, Grove could single-handedly eliminate all food problems in the Territory.  No ships have been allowed to land on the planet. The team have nicknamed the planet "Eden."

Kapteyn's Star

Colonies: Two

Locations: Chaos

Value:  Ten

Purpose: UEF Federation Mining Colony

  • Kapteyn’s Star:  is a star that failed. Chaos, a very unstable gas planet is always in a state of stress, some scientists say it could go at any time.  No one really knows why this planet has managed to stay in one piece with 145 large moons tugging on it, but it is a very rich fuel area. Massive automated gas collector’s work night and day, processing the fuel. Chaos is the only planet where all the ingredients for ship fuel can be found. Because of the violent stresses, nobody lives near or on the planet or its satellites.

Pellius

Colonies: One

Locations: Pioneer Outpost V1270-xp IX

Value:  Three

Purpose:  Peacekeeper Outpost

·        Pioneer Outpost: the orbiting Peacekeeper Outpost is a major dry-dock for spacecraft maintenance. The world it orbits is a massive terrestrial world covered in a black atmosphere.  The atmosphere is so thick and dark than it stretches from the Stratosphere all the way to the surface.  Even with high-powered lights, most cannot see more than 100 meters in front of them. A population of 20 Thousand personnel, on the station operate the massive dry-docks that can accommodate every type of vessel.

Runi Vega

Colonies: Two

Locations: Stoner Mountain and Keystone Anchorage

Value:  Ten

Purpose: UEF Federation Mining Colony

·        Runi Vega: most of the planet's atmosphere is still toxic. However, there are a vast natural caverns within Stoner Mountain that now has its own atmosphere and biosphere.  These caverns are over 10,000 square miles in size, and are protected by the immense rock domes of the mountain. Excavation is now going on within the Mountain, to expand the available living space while Terraforming continues above ground. At present, much of the planet’s light manufacturing and engineering is done at Stoner 1. There are ample resources on this world, and once it is fully terraformed the above ground mines and other operations will make it a major industrial base.

·        Keystone Anchorage: This Colony, based on a large moon, is the site of a standard mining operation. It is a domed complex, without a major Service Base, and the mines recover heavy metals and a rare mineral used in power conversion units. Security forces from UEF protect the operations.

Sadima

Colonies: One

Locations: Centauri

Value:  Zero

Purpose: Common Wealth Merchant

  • Sadima: A planet on the border between the UEF Controlled Space and the CWN. Because of massive fossil fuel deposits from a previous extinct ecosystem, Sadima is considered a great commodity, although blanketed in low level, almost un-forested swamp like stretches of bijou countryside.  Stretches of old oilrigs float on the shallow waters marking the horizon with their metal skeletons. The sky is reddish black because of some of the fires caused by ionization.
  • Centauri: is the base camp on Sadima. Protected with massive firewalls, Centauri is quickly growing as a centre of commerce for the planet. Because of several recent and lucrative contracts, another Atmosphere Processor has been constructed on Sadima. Population: 75 thousand.

Tess
Colonies: One

Locations: ATOL Station

Value:  Seven

Purpose: Common Wealth Merchant Colony

  •  Tess:  Also a planet rich in natural resources (fossil fuels.) Tess is totally covered in water with only a handful of jutting landmasses. Because the oil and gas deposits are small and scattered, instead of placing rigs everywhere, hundreds of super tankers roam across the surface and directly drill the area, then move on. The water is acidic and contains no life, and the planet has no stable landmass above sea level. However there is a large moon that combines with the system's sun to create huge tides that sweep the planet. It is impossible to build communities on the land areas that are exposed, because they are above water for only a few hours at a time. The atmosphere is breathable with a filter masks.  Research continues into how to tame this world.
  • ATOL Station: a space station orbits the planet, carrying a few dozen permanent staff, and two or three survey teams go down into the atmosphere every month.

Van Maanen's Star

Colonies: Two

Locations: Berg Park Outpost, Panamar

Value:  Eight

Purpose: Common Wealth Mining Community

·        Berg Park Outpost:  This is the name of a huge processing station as well the Ice Field in sits in orbiting Van Maanen's Star.  Berg Park has the largest deposits of pure water in the galactic arm. Huge chunks of ice are harvested and purified.

·        Panamar: A small research/cultivation station, harvesting and studying a type of Thermogenic Plankton; this simple life form uses thermal energy instead of sunlight to create hydrocarbons. It is currently being studied for the use in Life Support Systems.
